In the meantime, let me highlight something near and dear to me -- literally. The Cooke Street Carnival returns for the fourth straight year, set for October 13 on -- you guessed it --- Cooke Street in Downtown.
From its Facebook page:
In the Year of the Flamingo, you shall have laughs, music, art and as always, carnival antics.
Returning for its fourth year, Cooke Street will be host to a Chinese themed carnival on October 13th from 1-6pm.
There will be a Peep Flamingo eating contest.
There will be a slow bike race sponsored by Oak City Cycling Project.
There will be bands including Bombadil, Lonnie Walker and more.
There will be beer, including Lone Rider, Aviator, Carolina Brewing Company and Busy Bee sampling some of their homebrews for their upcoming nano-brewery in Downtown Raleigh.
There will be desserts and drinks from Crumb, Sweets Raleigh, Slingshot Coffee, Counter Culture and more to come.
There will be food including the yearly Cooke Street BBQ, Sympathy for the Deli food truck, Churba Churba Dumplings food truck, Captain Poncho's Tacos and more to come.....
There will be art by Becky Joye, Bart Cusick, Ross Ford and more.
There will be breakdancers and a drum circle with hoop jamming.
There will be a dunking booth and lots of kids activities.
There will be flamingo dragons and super lucky cats.
Come one, come all, to the greatest show on Earth, or at least on Cooke Street.
You really won't want to miss it.
